Hampshire Schools: Cross Country
Introduction
The ESAA organizes a National KO Cup competition for individual school entries. Usually, a County round is followed by a Regional one and then the National finals.
Hampshire organizes a one-day individual Schools Team event, usually around November each year. Teams can be entered in any of the categories below:
- Year 7 Boys & Year 7 Girls
- Year 8 Boys & Year 8 Girls
- Year 9 Boys & Year 9 Girls
A Senior County Championship is held on a Saturday in mid to late January each year. Districts enter teams and/or individuals in any or all of the following categories:
- Under 15/Junior/Years 8 & 9, Boys & Girls
- Under 17/Intermediate/Years 10 & 11, Boys & Girls
- Under 19/Senior/Years 12 & 13, Boys & Girls
Following these Championships, Hampshire invites runners to represent the County at an Inter-County event. This is a very high-quality run, as Kent, Surrey, Sussex, Essex, and Berkshire usually take part—plus some other Counties on occasions—and these are traditionally some of the strongest Counties in the country.
Selection for the Hampshire County team at the English Schools National Championships follows these two runs.
A Junior County Championship, normally mid-week, is usually held in early March. Districts enter teams and/or individuals in any of the following categories:
- Under 13/Year 7, Boys & Girls
- Under 14/Year 8, Boys & Girls
After the Junior County Championship, and as with the Senior Championships, Hampshire invites runners to represent the County at an Inter-County event. This is a very high-quality run, as Kent, Surrey, Sussex, Essex, and Berkshire—plus some other Counties on occasions—take part, and these are traditionally some of the strongest Counties in the country.
