What do COFSECS do?

MOTTO – BE AWAKE, BE AWARE, BE ALERT.

In conjunction with the Officials Committee we make Appointments for all the Hampshire Athletics and Hampshire Schools’ AA meetings, publishing these on this website and keeping them up to date.

We arrange Courses for prospective new Officials and look after the development of all our Officials so they move up the ladder to, hopefully, Officiate at National or even international meetings. To achieve this, we meet 6 monthly with our Regional Cofsec colleagues to share best practices and also liaise with England Athletics and UKA. Obviously, we also need many Officials who just want to officiate at Club level and these are very much valued.

At the beginning of the season we arrange our annual Officials ‘Get Together’ with a Guest Speaker and buffet and also produce a 6 monthly Newsletter.

Our Officials Committee meet every 6 months.

Who needs officials?

To run any athletics meeting be it Track & Field, Cross Country or Road Race Officials are needed to ensure the competition is run in accordance with the rules and the athletes are relaxed and happy in the knowledge that the competition is run under conditions fair to all.

There are never too many Officials. To become an Official, you need to attend a Course in your chosen discipline e.g Track Judge, Field Judge, Timekeeper, Starter or Photo Finish Operator. The Courses run for up to 4 hours
depending on the Discipline and we arrange these one day at a weekend. There is a separate Course for Endurance i.e Cross Country and Road Racing. All these Courses are delivered by our Hampshire and England Athletics qualified Tutors.

There is no exam afterwards as you are immediately qualified after attending the Course provided you have obtained the EA DBS and attended the online Health & Safety and Safeguarding Courses.
