Hampshire will be sending U14, U16 and U18 teams to the Southern Cross Country Inter-County Championships, and we’d like to hear from athletes who want to be considered for selection.

Races and age groups (age on 31st August 2027; times may change)

• 11:00am – U14 Girls (aged 12 or 13) – approx. 3,000m
• 11:20am – U14 Boys (aged 12 or 13) – approx. 3,000m
• 11:40am – U16 Girls (aged 14 or 15) – approx. 4,000m
• 12:25pm – U16 Boys (aged 14 or 15) – approx. 4,000m
• 12:50pm – U18 Men (aged 16 or 17) – approx. 5,000m
• 1:15pm – U18 Women (aged 16 or 17) – approx. 5,000m

Athletes must run in their correct age group.

To be eligible you must:

• Qualify to represent Hampshire by birth or residence
• Be actively registered with England Athletics
• Provide your date of birth

How teams work: Up to 12 athletes are entered per team, 8 run on the day and the first 4 score. All runners are recorded in the results. 

Important dates

• Friday 30th October 2026: Deadline for expressions of interest. All names must be in by this date.
• Friday 13th November 2026: Deadline for Hampshire to submit its teams to SEAA.

Please note that the Reading XC fixture on Saturday 14th November falls after the entry deadline, so results from that race can’t be used for selection.

Only athletes named on our entry by the closing date can run, and no substitutions are allowed after that. If you’re selected, please be sure you can attend before you accept.

Medals go to the top three individuals and top three A teams in every race.

Expression of interest: Please complete the form by Friday 30th October 2026, even if you can’t race. It’s just as helpful for us to know who isn’t available when we’re putting the teams together.

Please note that athletes selected for the Southerns must also be available for the Inter-Counties Championships in March 2027.

Coaches: If you have an athlete you think should be considered, please write to me by 30th October with your case for them, for example recent results or training form. Also get them to fill in the form.
