HSAA Pentathlon Championships
The 28th H.S.A.A. Combined Events Championships will be held at The Charlton Sports and Leisure Centre, Charlton, Andover, SP10 3LF on Thursday 22ndMay 2025 starting at 12 noon and finishing at approximately 6pm. For 6th FORM STUDENTS see note below.
We are seeking your support in gathering the appropriate number of talented athletes and are looking at very good Year 9 pupils and exceptional Year 8’s. We are also continuing with the competition for Years 10 and 11 although we appreciate that most Year 11’s will be involved with exams at this time. We do not expect members of staff to be present all afternoon with just a few athletes so competitors can attend with a teacher, parent or coach. Please include on your entry form the details of any athlete who is unable to attend this event but who would like to be considered for the Regional Round of the E.S.A.A. Competition which will be held at the David Weir Leisure Centre, Middleton Road, Carlshalton, London, SM5 1SL on 28th & 29th June 2025. The Year 8’s and 9’s compete in the Junior age group, whilst the Year 10’s and 11’s in the Intermediate age group. Schools must make the entry.
Officials will be present to run the event.
We would like to get the top 20-25 athletes in both the boys and girls event in the Junior/U15 age group and the top 10-15 in the Intermediate/U17 age group. To help you gauge whether your talented pupils are good enough and should be entered we offer at the end of this information letter standards. This year, entries from schools are restricted to 4 competitors per gender per age group, however, if you feel you have additional athletes of the appropriate standard please contact me and if there are sufficient spaces available these athletes may be able to be included.
If entries are high, field events may be run in 2 pools with the exception of High Jump. The High Jump competition will be restricted to 7 jumps per competitor. The 3 consecutive failures rule still applies.
We will be selecting teams for the Regional Round of the E.S.A.A. Combined Events after this competition, where Junior Boys & Junior Girls will compete in a Pentathlon, Intermediate Girls in a Heptathlon and Intermediate Boys in an Octathlon.
To enter pupils please send the attached Form by email to ceselection@hampshireschoolsathletics.org.uk by Wednesday 14thMay 2025.
There will be a £5.00 entry fee per competitor. Schools will be invoiced after the event for entry fees payment.
If you have any 6thForm age students interested in competing at the Regional round please ask them to contact ceselection@hampshireschoolsathletics.org.uk directly for further information.

For the Regional Finals the first 3 boys and girls from our Pentathlon Championships will be selected for the HSAA team. In case anyone is ill on the day of this competition the 4th place for the Regional finals will be chosen as the person with the next best performance in a pentathlon in this age group, but this is likely to be the boy or girl who finishes 4th on the day. Four reserves will also be nominated and these may be contacted at the last minute if another athlete has to withdraw.
For the Regional Finals the 1st boy and girl from our Pentathlon Championships will be selected for the HSAA team. In recognition that Year 11 athletes may not be able to attend, the other 3 places for the Intermediate team along with places for the Senior teams will be made based on existing performances and from those expressing an interest to compete for HSAA.
NOTE: at the Regional finals and at the National Championships –
Junior Boys & Junior Girls will compete in a Pentathlon;
Intermediate & Senior Girls will compete in a Heptathlon;
Intermediate Boys will compete in an Octathlon;
Senior Boys will compete in a Decathlon.
