Alton Sports Hampshire Cross Country League
We are pleased to have received support and sponsorship for the Hampshire Cross Country League for two seasons from Alton Sports.
They will be attending most of our fixtures, offering an excellent range of running clothing and accessories.
The league season runs from October to February and comprises five races in Hampshire and neighbouring counties.
11 February - Staunton Country Park, Havant
The fixture on 11 February will now take place at Staunton Country Park, off the B2149 Petersfield Road north of Havant.
The course will not use any of the land which has previously been used for the Hampshire Cross-Country Championships. As the course will use forest tracks, IT IS UNSUITABLE FOR SPIKES. Studded shoes would be the most suitable footwear.
Further details on the course and parking arrangements will appear here as and when released. Please be aware that parking on residential roads adjacent to Staunton Country Park is not permitted.
4 March - Prospect Park, Reading
The fixture at Prospect Park, Reading that had to be cancelled on 14 January has been re-arranged for 4 March, which is a designated date for league events.
To avoid clashing with junior football matches, the timetable has been put back by 30 minutes, with the first race starting at 12:30.
For similar reasons and to help with parking, there will be NO UNDER 11 RACE at Reading.
Registration of athletes
A reminder please that lists of competing athletes are needed for our records. We need to have correctly spelt names, dates of birth, age categories the athlete is running in and EA Registration Numbers for everyone intending to run for your club.
Also to remind clubs that they need to be affiliated to England Athletics before they can join the League.
On a personal note, a reminder about the Veteran age categories that we use:
- Men: M40, M50, M60 and M70
- Women: W35, W45, W55 and W65
In other words, ten year categories from when the athlete becomes a Veteran.

Popplewell Trophy 2016
The recipient of the Popplewell Trophy for 2016 is John Hoare of Overton Harriers.
John began his association with athletics as a runner himself, then with his sons as a coach, and now as an official and Team manager. As a staunch supporter of the League for many years, John's contribution is immense. He not only is the Team Manager for Overton's Senior Teams, but regularly has been Referee at League matches. He and other members of Overton Harriers give much support to Basingstoke and Mid Hants when they stage the fixture at Popham Airfield.
It was again difficult for the Committee to choose the recipient this year, as all nominations were extremely worthy, but John's citation from Overton Harriers carried the decision.
